71st Annual Posy Parade Summons All Hearts
The children's event avoided rain and drew a crowd throughout downtown.
As the oldest non-motorized children's parade in the country, it would have been heartbreaking to see this year's event rained out. But the weather held up, and the show went on.
Hundreds turned out to participate and watch the parade, which was organized by the San Bruno Lions Club and held the theme of the city's motto: "San Bruno. The City With a Heart." Five schools and the San Bruno Mothers Club marched with their floats while baseball and soccer teams, the Capuchino High marching band and other organizations filled in the parade.
The float for Portola Elementary School took first prize overall.

It was a much smaller affair this year, but the quality of the floats was excellent. So nice that the weather cooperated! I was surprised how many of the kids in the bicycle division were not wearing helmets -- uh, it's the law; maybe the Lions can work to have someone provide the kids with helmets if they want to be in the parade.

I also heard that the participation this year seemed smaller than past years. However, the event overall was fun and everyone was in good spirits. It kind of made me wish we had a parade when I was growing up.

The judging for those floats was rigged. Notice El Crystal and Rollingwood didn't bother with floats?

Thank you to all of the participants, City workers, and Lions members for a great event. I believe the weather did effect the numbers, however I was very impressed with the amount of people watching the parade. It is unfortunate that we did not have a 100 % school presence as the Lions have provided each school with a float to decorate. Hopefully next years (wow 72nd !) will be even better with the San Bruno Community's support.
