Cyclist Who Killed San Bruno Man Allegedly Ran Red Lights

The cyclist who fatally struck Sutchi Hui said he didn't do anything illegal, but different accounts suggest something else, reports say.

The San Francisco Chronicle has reported that more details have been released about the bicycle collision that left a San Bruno man dead in late March.

According to the Chronicle, the cyclist who hit Sutchi Hui, 71, as he was walking in an intersection in San Francisco's Castro district, said he didn't break any laws.

Chris Bucchere was apparently riding down a hill near Market and Castro streets when he plowed into a crowd of pedestrians who were walking in a crosswalk. Hui was the only person hit, and he died April 2 at San Francisco General Hospital.

Bucchere has since apologized for the tragic accident, but he said he tried to stop.

"Chris believes that he entered the intersection lawfully and that he did everything possible to avoid the accident," an attorney representing Bucchere told the Chronicle. "His heart goes out to Mr. Hui's wife and family for their loss."

The Chronicle also reported that a witness provided another account of the accident. According to the witness, Bucchere ran several red lights and stop signs before he struck Hui.

The collision has now sparked outrage among many locals who say Bucchere should not be let off the hook lightly.

Bucchere has not yet been charged, the Chronicle reported.

But many are saying he should face a felony for riding recklessly through a busy intersection.
