Police Arrest Driver Involved in Fatal Crash

The driver of the truck that caused the fatal accident had a negligent driving record and was driving on a suspended license, police said.

Police today arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the that left two cousins dead and four others injured.

Investigators found that Rodney Corsiglia, a San Bruno resident, had a negligent driving record and was driving on a suspended license when he rear-ended Arnulfo Picazo and Usbaldo Gomez, who were stopped at a light at Sneath Lane and El Camino Real. Corsiglia also struck two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection. 

, who had just left the baptism of Gomez's 1-year-old daughter at St. Bruno's Church, were pronounced dead at the scene, while four people, including at least two children, in the other two cars were sent to a local hospital.

"Investigators believe that Corsiglia continued to operate a motor vehicle, knowing his condition impaired his ability to drive safely," San Bruno police Lt. Geoff Caldwell said in a statement.

Shortly after the crash, which happened at about 12:16 p.m. on a Saturday at a busy intersection, police began investigating whether drunk driving was involved in the accident, and that factor still hasn't been determined because the investigation is ongoing.

But investigators revealed that Corsiglia's license had been suspended due to medical reasons. Police are now awaiting toxicology reports to determine what impairment led Corsiglia to cause the collision.

Corsiglia has been booked into San Mateo County Jail and faces charges including homicide, vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence causing injury and death.

The injuries of the other people Corsiglia struck are still unknown.
