Two Events Set to Commemorate Anniversary of Pipeline Explosion

The one-year anniversary of the Sept. 9, 2010, fire is expected to be preceded by the release of the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation into the blast.

The anniversary of last year's tragic pipeline explosion will be marked by two commemorative events, according to media reports.

At 6 p.m. on Sept. 9, a Friday, residents of the Crestmoor neighborhood—where a natural gas transmission line owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. ruptured near Glenview Drive and Earl Avenue, leaving eight people dead and the neighborhood in shambles—and the public will gather at to in the fire.

The were: Elizabeth Torres; Jacqueline Greig and her 13-year-old daughter Janessa; Jessica Morales; Greg, William and Lavonne Bullis; and James Franco.

"We'll be celebrating going forward in life," Mayor Jim Ruane said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to release its report on Aug. 30 that will show what caused the explosion, the San Mateo County Times reports. For the last year, the agency has been and has released nearly 10,000 pages of documents from the investigators' findings. The investigation has already in the way PG&E and utility companies throughout the country are operating their pipelines and ensuring the safety and integrity of their systems.

Ruane is heading to Washington, D.C., on that day for the report's unveiling.
