Things To Know: 42 Parking Spaces to be Lost on 1st Avenue
The change is the result of the Caltrain Grade Separation project.
At Tuesday night's San Bruno City Council meeting Caltrain advised San Bruno residents that the finalization of re-structuring First Avenue along the Grade Separation would result in the loss of 42 parking spaces.
Buried in the information provided and attached, "The net loss of 42 street parking spaces will be compensated by adding parking on Huntington Avenue, Kains Avenue, and San Mateo Avenue."
The drawing attached seems to show (and prior presentations reported) and it seems to this writer that there should be plenty of area between the west side of 1st Avenue street's curb and the elevated track wall (that would require green plantings) to allow for reduction of this green space to the extent required to include parallel street parking on BOTH sides of 1st Avenue and allow 2 full width travel lanes.
Currently 1st Avenue appears to be of sub standard width, but there appears to be plenty of proposed green space (some of which that could be used to allow for west side parallel parking).
Contact: Caltrain at sbgradesep@caltrain.com or 650-508-7726
and request that they cut back on the width of the green space along the west side of 1st Avenue to allow for parallel parking and two full width travel lanes.
