Things To Know: Caltrain Parking Fees to Increase Sept 1

Caltrain Parking Fees to Increase Sept. 1

August 14, 2013

Beginning Sept. 1, the daily parking fee at Caltrain stations will increase to $5 and the monthly fee will be $50.  The increase, which was approved the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board as part of the Fiscal Year 2014 Operating Budget, is necessary to cover the increasing cost of maintaining the parking lots. Caltrain raised parking fees in 2006, 2009 and 2011.

As Caltrain continues to experience historic ridership growth, the demand for parking at stations is increasing. SamTrans, which serves all Caltrain stations in San Mateo County, is an attractive alternative for many riders; VTA serves stations in Santa Clara County. Riders with a two-zone or greater Caltrain Monthly Pass receive a local fare credit on SamTrans or VTA, which allows them to ride for free.

In spite of the increase, parking in Caltrain lots is still a bargain compared to parking in similar transit parking lots, where fees range from $14 to $20 a day for weekday users and from $100 to $250 for monthly passes.
