Things To Know: Chronic Positive Towhee - WNV - East Palo Alto

The San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District reports:

We have confirmation of a West Nile Virus Chronic Positive California Towhee in San Mateo County.  It was reported on August 12, in the city of East Palo Alto.  The district website will be updated to reflect this result.

A Chronic Positive result means that the bird was carrying very low levels of virus, and was probably not recently infected.

As usual, we will set traps for mosquitoes in the area.  All mosquitoes tested this year have been negative for West Nile Virus, although some results from Burlingame are still pending.
