Things To Know: Covered CA Update

California Assemblyman Kevin Mullin reports:

NEW: Covered CA Hotline

Dear Friend,

While 32 million Californians will keep their existing health insurance and another 4 million uninsured will get coverage starting next year, many Californians will be moved off their current policies because their plans don't meet the minimum coverage benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

To help these transitioning enrollees, a special customer care unit has been established. The hotline, (855) 857-0445, will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hotline representatives are trained to speak with consumers to understand their situation, educate them about the Affordable Care Act and their options, calculate their eligibility for premium assistance or an affordability exemption, remind them of deadlines for getting insurance so there are no gaps in coverage and transfer callers to health plan staff or arrange for a three-way call.

I encourage all transitioning enrollees to take advantage of this service. For more information about Covered California, please visit my website.

Sincerely,

Kevin Mullin
Assemblymember, 22nd District
