Wednesday, Feb. 27 The City of San Bruno & the San Bruno Fire Department presents - Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training. FREE Here is your opportunity to become a trained member of "CERT", the City of San Bruno Community Preparedness Program. Participants in this 20-hour series of classes will learn how to be a part of neighborhood response teams, cross-trained in basic emergency skills.

All classes will be held Wednesday evenings at Skyline College, 3300 College Drive, San Bruno from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. except for **Skills Development & Application**, which will be held on Saturday April 13th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Caltrain is kicking off environmental review of the electrification project with a series of public meetings to seek input on the scope of the review.

Thursday, Feb. 28, Be a Dear and Donate a Brassiere. Supports a Day of Glamour for 50 Women in Transition. (Be a Dear) will work with approximately 50 women from San Mateo County non-profit organizations including the Catherine Center program, Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter, Latino Commission and Cafe St Vincent. Be a Dear will offer a variety of beauty services to help the women gain confidence, empowerment and enhance their self-image. The makeovers will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Store, located at 1600 El Camino Real, San Bruno, California.

“At the end of the day our goal is to make sure every woman leaves with a beautiful outfit, a new hairstyle and great fitting bra, but equally important is that each woman feels that no matter what life sends their way, they are special, beautiful and cared for” said Lisa Collins, co-chair of the “MOD Project” and Director of St. Vincent Café in South San Francisco.

Gently used clothing, accessories and new toiletries are still being collected for this event. Please contact onebraone@gmail.com if you would like to arrange for a pick-up of donations. Receipts are available upon request.

Friday, Mar. 29, DEADLINE -Applications Accepted for 2013-14 Civil Grand Jury. The Honorable Lisa A. Novak of the San Mateo County Superior Court announced today that applications for service on the 2013-2014 Grand Jury will be accepted for consideration beginning February 13, 2013 and continuing until March 29, 2013.

Judge Novak made the announcement as the appointed Grand Jury Advisor for the next grand jury term, which commences July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2014.

Any resident of San Mateo County for more than one year who is a citizen of the United States, 18 years of age or older, of ordinary intelligence, sound judgment and good character, with sufficient knowledge of the English language is eligible for selection by Judge Novak.

Elected public officials are not eligible.

The Court encourages all interested individuals to apply. The Court strives to obtain a cross section of the county population. After the completion of an interview process by Judge Novak, jurors will be selected through a random draw.

Students must be 15 years of age by the last day of the class and pass a swim pre-test (swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes, retrieve a 10 pound brick from 10 feet and return it to designated spot). The City of San Bruno is seeking volunteers: The City has numerous commissions and committees that through volunteers provide a vital service to the City.  Currently there are two (2) openings on the Citizens Crime Prevention Committee. Street Sweeping Time Changes - Effective February 4, 2013

Beginning Monday, February 4, 2013, there will be a new street sweeping schedule:

Residential street sweeping will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Parking-Restricted areas will be cleaned one (1) hour later. The street sweeping day will not change.

Areas previously restricted from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. will move to 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Areas previously restricted from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. will move to 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Commercial and industrial areas will be swept between 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
