Film About San Bruno Fire to Debut at History Museum

The film will be shown in commemoration of the second anniversary of the 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion.

The San Mateo County History Museum will be debuting a new film about the San Bruno fire this fall.

Filmmaker Jon Rubin directed the 30-minute documentary, which features footage from the Sept. 9, 2010, pipeline explosion and interviews with many of the people who were involved in the disaster, including firefighters, residents and city leaders.

Rubin initially created the film to honor Mayor Jim Ruane, who was , a group of business, labor and community leaders in the area. Rubin is the CEO of the organization.

In addition to acknowledging the heroism that Ruane and the city exhibited during the fire and aftermath, Rubin said he wanted the film to educate people who may not be familiar with how the disaster impacted the community.

"The hope is that people outside of San Bruno can see this film and understand that it can happen at anytime, and how a community dealt with this," he said.

In commemoration of the second anniversary since the fire, the history museum will show the documentary at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6.

The film will be introduced by Rubin. Ruane and City Manager Connie Jackson will field questions from the audience after the film is shown.

The evening will be free with the cost of admission to the museum, which is $5 for adults, and $3 for students and seniors. The museum is located at 2200 Broadway in Redwood City.

I have to share this with my community as I have never told this story. On that day my wife, as she always does, walked out Husky down to the mail drop. At that time it was located 50 feet from the defective pipe. Our dog must have smelled the gas as he pulled her back to our home on Hampton Ct. Just as she was in our living room the explosion happened and she actually felt the heat inside our home. If the dog would not have taken her home, she would have walked up the street and back down putting. No doubt in my mind she would have been vaporized. I thank God for this and think about it every day. Our dog refused to be walked for months and my wife has dreams about it. I feel so bad for those family who lost love ones. We never see PG&E anymore and have to put up with the large trucks that drive way too fast around our homes. We would like to move because of the memories and the torn up streets and homes, but cannot afford it. Sure PG&E settled with us, but the vet bill for our dog exceeds the amount of the settlement. You see our dog must be walked or his ACL’s will snap; and they did. One full year of recovery at Cal Davis-they don’t care.

That was nsuch a horrific day. PGE should be tried for mrder and attempted muder for all of the San Bruno residents. They need to be held accountable and not get away with this. Instead they do get away with it and put all the the costs on the consumer. Theyb are still not fixing or repacing all the old gas lines throughout California. They are also putting that debt on the consumer. It is their responsibility to maintain their own equipment.
