Welcome to Carry the Light 2013 -- A Creative Collaboration Blog

“Carry the Light is all about following your smallest creative inclination to its greatest conclusion.”

Carry the Light is based on a philosophy originated by Boris Koodrin, director of the Fine Arts Galleria at the San Mateo County Fair.

His inspiration took form in collaboration with blues guitarist Kelly Richey when he illustrated her 2008 album “Carry the Light.”

Within the Fine Arts Galleria, Boris and his wife, Bardi Rosman Koodrin, the department’s literary director, provide opportunities each year at the fair for artists, writers, and performers to express themselves in their chosen medium.

This ranges from submitting to art and literary contests with cash prizes to reading your short stories, poems, and essays, to performing on the literary stage, to being a volunteer before and/or during the fair.

There is room for everyone to get creative.

The Fine Arts Galleria in Expo Hall at the fairgrounds is comprised of 12,000 square feet of gallery floor space.  The department receives over 1000 entries in visual arts, photography and literary arts contests with healthy cash and ribbon awards and a very active literary/performance stage along with nine days of free rent.

Let’s play!!!

Boris and Bardi believe that everyone has an important story to tell, and they provide the space with which to create. Their intent is to uplift and challenge people to reflect on how much we have to be grateful for, and to help instill the thought that there is unlimited potential in what we can do to inspire one another.

Carry the Light is not just a slogan: it is an ideal that also challenges all of us to dream a better dream for ourselves.

The assumption that some of us are highly creative, while others are not, is one that Boris and Bardi continuously challenge.

“We are all called to paint a masterpiece with our lives.”

Mr, Kiely, When they cut school days, isn't the savings in that the employees who directly work withRead More and for the children are deprived of that many days of pay??? Do the principals also lose 5 days pay? Does Hutt lose 5 days pay? Do the board members lose 5 days worth of their stipend. In other words, is the bad tasting medicine swallowed by everyone in the school district in a sincere effort to cure the ills of this school district Or is it just the teachers and the classified workers who are called upon to attempt a restoral of good health, the direct result of poor management and less than admirable leadership that has brought about ths crisis??

Mr, Kiely, Somewhere I heard that they were considering stopping contracting out PE at a largeRead More savings. Was that discussed last week? I was not abe to stay the entire evening. I question why they would have contracted for PE at the elementary level. Isn't that what recess and the balance of lunch time was for? Physical activity??? Thank you in advance for your always knowledgeable answer to my questions.

District cutting school days? The District is showing an agreement with the union which will saveRead More $200K. It doesn't show where the money is coming from, but the amount makes it look like they are cutting 5 days from the calendar. Dr. Hutt said at the last meeting that the length of the school year was still under negotiation.
