Accused Attempted Cop Killer Beats Cellmate over Lost Hair Tie

The 23-year-old inmate punched her cellmate 13 times and left her bloody.

A woman already accused of attempting to murder a San Bruno police officer found herself in more last week when she badly injured her cellmate.

Mickie Lei Gardiner, 23, is in custody while awaiting trial on the attempted murder charge.

On July 6, she returned to her cell from time in general population and found her hair tie was missing. According to San Mateo County District Attorney's notes, she accused her cellmate of stealing the hair tie. The cellmate denied the allegation and offered Gardiner one of her own hair ties.

The gesture was refused and Gardiner instead punched her cellmate in the face 13 times, leaving her bruised and with a "very bloody nose," the DA's Office reported.

Gardiner is set to appear in court on the assault charge at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. She is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
