10 Finalists Vying to Get on the Shelves of Walmart

The nationwide contest is the brainchild of San Bruno-based @WalmartLabs and similar to "American Idol." The winning products will have the opportunity to be sold online and in Walmart stores around the country.

Walmart has selected 10 finalists for its "Get on the Shelf" contest, a nationwide campaign to find the next "it" product that will be sold online and in its stores, the world's largest retailer recently said.

The nationwide contest is the brainchild of San Bruno-based @WalmartLabs and similar to "American Idol" in which contestants created videos of their latest inventions. The public then has had the chance to vote online for the winners.

Overall, 4,000 products were submitted for the contest. The three winning products will have the opportunity to be sold on Walmart.com, and the grand prize winner will get the chance to be carried in select U.S. Walmart stores after the final round of voting is completed at the end of the month.

"The top 10 finalists represent the smart and inspirational products that Walmart customers want to see on the shelf online and in their local stores," Chris Bolte, vice president of @WalmartLabs, said in a statement. "We have been inspired by the creativity and passion of the contestants as they promote their products through traditional media, social marketing and personal networks."
