BART Strike: Free Airport Shuttles Running

With BART service shut down this morning, San Francisco International Airport is running its own free shuttle bus service to help travelers get around, an airport spokesman said.

Buses are running every 15 minutes between the airport and the Millbrae Caltrain station, airport spokesman Doug Yakel said.

There are other buses running on a more limited schedule to and from the South San Francisco ferry terminal at Oyster Point. Yakel said the buses are timed to coincide with ferry departures and arrivals.

The shuttle buses are picking up passengers on the upper level of the International Terminal. Yakel said airport personnel are at the terminal directing people on where to go.

He said at about 9:20 a.m. that the bus service was working OK and that signage had been put up to point travelers in the right direction.

Yakel said the widespread publicity about the BART strike has helped ease the confusion.

Airport personnel will be evaluating their bus shuttle plan later this week if the strike continues to see if any changes need to be made to better accommodate SFO travelers.

AirBART bus service to Oakland International Airport has been interrupted because of the strike. Transit officials advise travelers to take AC Transit buses instead.
