Hoot Judkins Store Closing After More Than 30 Years in San Bruno

The company is selling the store's building on El Camino Real. The Redwood City location will still remain open.

The store in San Bruno, which has been open for more than 30 years, is closing, Patch has learned.

With its signature owl logo and Big Chair greeting customers before they walk in the door, the custom wood furniture store has been a staple on El Camino Real.

But the company has decided to sell the building, citing dwindling sales at that location.

"The timing was right for selling it," said Hoot Judkins owner Robert Watson Jr. "The economic times definitely makes it more challenging."

The store still remains open, but it is now expediting the liquidation of its merchandise until the sale of the building is final.

With the San Bruno store closing, the company's Redwood City location will be the only one left in the Bay Area (there used to be four stores in the Bay Area, but the San Francisco and Fremont stores have closed).

Watson Jr. said the Redwood City store is still going strong, and customers can always still shop there or online.

He said he hopes the company can open a store again in the northern Peninsula in the future.
