Lama's Voted Best Martial Arts Studio on Peninsula

Residents throughout the area voted the downtown martial arts studio as their favorite for Bay Area Parent's annual "Best of the Best" awards.

was recently voted the best martial arts studio on the Peninsula by Bay Area Parent magazine.

The downtown martial arts studio, which has been open since 1986—first in San Francisco when it was founded by Sibok Lama, then later in San Bruno—was voted "Best of the Best" after nominations were submitted online throughout the region. This is the first time Lama's has received the award.

Angelique Presidente, the office manager at Lama's, said the reasons the martial arts studio won the award are because it is not just a place to learn karate. Students become like family, she said, and Lama and the instructors are beloved.

"We are competitively priced and we do not require a contract like the majority of other martial arts studios," Presidente said. "We actively compete in tournaments throughout the U.S. and have students who travel outside the country to compete as well. Lama's Kenpo Karate is special and our students and instructors made us that way."

In addition to recognizing the best martial arts studio every year, Bay Area Parent also recognizes other "Best of the Best" businesses that residents vote as their favorite throughout the Peninsula and Bay Area.
