Pluots: Sweeter Than Apricots or Plums Alone
The weather should be sunny and warm for this Sunday's farmers' market; there may be surprises in store for dad.
This Sunday’s features the pluot: a plum-apricot hybrid. Pluots, which range from a deep purple to bright green and yellow, taste particularly rich and sweet, as the sugar content is higher than that of a plum or apricot alone. Their season stretches from May to September.
Musical guest Mike Osborn will play the blues and perform original tunes. Market browsers will also enjoy entertainment by the cheerleaders. And the Pacific Farmers Market Association has hinted that there may be some surprises in store for dads on this Father’s Day.
The weather is expected to be sunny and clear, with a high of 70 degrees. The market is open for business from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Shoppers can choose from a range of seasonal fruits, vegetables, and flowers, including:

“Extra 5″ offers farmers’ market customers an extra $5 when they spend at least $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at selected farmers’ markets operated by partners at the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh recipients to take advantage of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
