San Bruno Car Insurance Rates among Highest in Bay Area

Compared to San Francisco, car insurance rates in San Bruno are not too bad. But in comparison with the rest of the Bay Area, they are considerably higher.

I often wonder if I'm paying too much for my car insurance. I don't drive anything fancy (a 1999 Dodge Intrepid, jealous?), but insurance is still expensive.

"Hey how much do you pay for car insurance?" — not the most polite question. Not one I walk around asking.

So when I got an email about this Nosy Neighbor tool I thought it was pretty cool to see, at least geographically, how my rates compare to my neighbors', and how much I might be paying if I lived somewhere else.

Nosy Neighbor has pulled quotes across many of the nation's zip codes for a typical adult driver — a 40-year-old mam who drives 12 miles each way to work. Of course, the vast majority of drivers are not this archetype, but the 40-year-old man model shows a good average from which there isn't a huge amount of variance among different demographics as far as insurance premiums.

Compared the rest of the Bay Area, insurance rates in San Bruno are quite high. Quotes from six national carriers show a range in yearly cost from $977 to $2,679. Rates are somewhat higher in San Francisco and comparable in Pinole and Hercules. But down in Santa Cruz County and Southern Santa Clara County, drivers are paying far less for car insurance.

Check out how the local rates compare to other towns and cities from Gilroy up to Larkspur below.

City Lowest Quoted Rate Highest Quoted Rate San Bruno $977 $2,679 Larkspur $944 $2,136 Corte Madera $912 $1,974 Pinole $823 $2,354 Hercules $948 $2,430 Milpitas $823 $2,116 Gilroy $806 $1,780 Scotts Valley $725 $1,709 Watsonville $858 $1,716 Capitola $806 $1,673 Soquel $821 $1,670 Morgan Hill $864 $1,818 San Jose $823 $2,586 San Francisco $981 $3,150

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the cheapest place to insure a car in the United States is rural Arizona, specifically Bullhead City, where the average price is $730 annually. Meanwhile, the Detroit suburbs are on the opposite end of the spectrum. The most expensive place in the country to insure a car is Highland Park Michigan, with an average yearly price of $4,214.

In California, Los Angeles County boasts the most expensive zip codes for car insurance, while Los Olivos, population 1,132, is the cheapest town in the state to keep a car protected.

Mr, Kiely, When they cut school days, isn't the savings in that the employees who directly work withRead More and for the children are deprived of that many days of pay??? Do the principals also lose 5 days pay? Does Hutt lose 5 days pay? Do the board members lose 5 days worth of their stipend. In other words, is the bad tasting medicine swallowed by everyone in the school district in a sincere effort to cure the ills of this school district Or is it just the teachers and the classified workers who are called upon to attempt a restoral of good health, the direct result of poor management and less than admirable leadership that has brought about ths crisis??

Mr, Kiely, Somewhere I heard that they were considering stopping contracting out PE at a largeRead More savings. Was that discussed last week? I was not abe to stay the entire evening. I question why they would have contracted for PE at the elementary level. Isn't that what recess and the balance of lunch time was for? Physical activity??? Thank you in advance for your always knowledgeable answer to my questions.

District cutting school days? The District is showing an agreement with the union which will saveRead More $200K. It doesn't show where the money is coming from, but the amount makes it look like they are cutting 5 days from the calendar. Dr. Hutt said at the last meeting that the length of the school year was still under negotiation.
