Nearly 600 people, including residents, officials, police officers, firefighters and Rep. Jackie Speier, showed up to the city's memorial gathering on Friday at to mark the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 9 pipeline explosion.
While hearts were heavy remembering the day last year that claimed eight lives and destroyed 38 homes in the Crestmoor neighborhood, the gathering celebrated the eight residents who died and raised the hope of a city still in recovery.
