Downed Wire Causes Power Outage for San Bruno Customers

A PG&E power outage in San Bruno on Tuesday night left more than 5,000 customers in the dark, the utility said.

The outage was reported at 6:06 p.m. when a wire fell down near Catalpa Way and Fleetwood Drive in the Rollingwood neighborhood. In all, 5,286 customers in San Bruno and in a portion of Millbrae were affected.

There were high winds in the area, but it is not yet clear what caused the wire to come down. PG&E has sent all the failed parts connected to the wire to its forensics lab in San Ramon.

"What we want to with that is analyze the failed parts," said Joe Molica, a PG&E spokesman. "We want to know why the wire failed, but we also want to know what we can learn to prevent instances like this from happening again."

After the outage, crews were able to restore power to all but 161 customers by 6:42 p.m., Molica said.

The remaining customers got their power restored at 12:43 a.m.

Molica said PG&E is aware that its San Bruno customers have felt a major inconvenience with . PG&E planned an outage in April so that crews could replace some power poles in the area. That work went on longer than expected, Molica said.

"If there were any losses in terms of food or anything like that, we want to apologize," Molica added.
