Gene the Birdman

Meet a local retired bird trainer who shows off his performing birds to people on the streets of San Bruno and South City.

Meet Eugene Bratvold, affectionately known as Gene the Birdman. A retired bird trainer who practiced for 16 years, Bratvold can often be seen all around the Bay Area as he shows people his 12 amazing parrots. While he's out with his feathered friends, Gene allows people to pet the birds, spectate as they perform tricks, and he especially lets children hold them and take pictures with them.

Patch asked Gene what has been most rewarding about his career as a bird trainer.

"It was saving an abused animal and (seeing) the smiles on people's faces," he said.
