San Bruno Patch's Weekly Ode to YouTube

A roundup of the best YouTube videos of the week.

Where would the modern world be without YouTube?

No matter what we do or wonder about these days, it seems that YouTube plays some part in it. Thanks to this one website, the world watches 3 billion videos a day. Forty-eight hours of video are uploaded to the site every day. And according to the company, users upload the equivalent of 240,000 full-length films every week.

Now that is fascinating.

But what makes these facts even more fascinating? is based right here in San Bruno. So San Bruno Patch is starting a new feature today: a weekly ode to the company that is constantly changing the world and the media landscape with a roundup of the best YouTube videos of the week, compiled by San Bruno Patch Editor Martin Ricard.

Feel free to comment and share your best YouTube picks of the week.

1. Quantum Levitation: Tel-Aviv University posted a demonstration of quantum superconductors locked in a magnetic field, and the video instantly went viral. A gold star for anyone who can explain what quantum levitation means.

2. Criminal Penguins: According to the BBC, some penguins turn to a life of crime to build the perfect nest. Perhaps that's why penguins always dress in black and white.

3. A Duet With Siri (The iPhone 4S Song): With the recent release of the new iPhone 4S and its new talking assistant Siri, it's no surprise that it didn't take long for someone to come up with this idea.

4. Steve Young Birthday Flash Mob: What's better than having your wife dance for you on your birthday? Having everyone else join in. Plus, this is a local one...with the Steve Young.
