Tuesday, July 12. 6 a.m.-noon. The San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District will be conducting the first of five larvicidal treatments over Mills Field (SFO property) via helicopter.  There are multiple large ponds filled with tules growing in water in the open space between the Belle Air Elementary School and Highway 101. This area can't be economically treated to control the possible breeding of mosquitoes by employees on the property. A helicopter with a bucket suspended on a cable will spread pellets treated with a larvicide that, when eaten by breeding mosquito larvae, will cause them to die and thus break the mosquito breeding cycle. This larvicide will only react in the basic condition in the larva's digestive tract. Other species known to be present in these waters have acidic digestive tracts and therefore are not effected. Please download, copy, and distribute the attached flier listing the four additionally scheduled dates. These dates and times could be changed due to weather conditions. Questions or futher information can be obtained by contacting the vector control district at 650-344-8592.

Who's Who and What's What

1. San Bruno’s Jennifer Vargas works for the New England Lobster Company and loves animals. In a recent shipment of lobsters from New England was a huge 18-pound lobster they named LeRoy. Jennifer got her company to allow her for find a home for this more than 80-year-old lobster. She found one at a New York City aquarium. So, LeRoy first flew to San Bruno and then back to New York City—not sure if he went first class or not—but I bet he was glad it was not in the boiling pot. San Bruno is truly "The City With A Heart."

2. There are two new businesses on the 500 block of San Mateo Avenue that are now open: and Tandy Leather. Welcome to San Bruno and to "The Avenues," a.k.a. San Mateo Avenue.
