Week in Review: New School Test Scores Released; Downtown Businesses Robbed

A look back at the week's news.

The week of Aug. 14-20 here was a week that included stories about a new children's arts business that opened in downtown, a huge cache of new documents released about the Sept. 9 pipeline explosion, a new revelation about the City Council election and the American Dream according to the Marshall family. Monday, Aug. 15

Tuesday, Aug. 16

: The San Bruno Park School District and Capuchino High continue to perform above state averages in the latest batch of test results released by the state Department of Education. However, Cap's graduation rate has declined.

Thursday, Aug. 18

: The lone challenger that entered the City Council race was disqualified, which means the three council members up for re-election will be uncontested in the Nov. 8 election.

: Police are seeking two suspects who held up two businesses during the week in armed robberies.

Saturday, Aug. 20

: TinMan, a classic rock band played at the free Concert in the Park City Park Friday while residents munched on their evening picnics.

: Due to environmental impacts and litter clean-up costs, several cities on the Peninsula have banned polystyrene foam take-out containers, and others are considering plastic bag bans.
