Week in Review: San Bruno Remembers 2nd Anniversary of Fire

A look back at the week's news, from Sept. 9-15.

Monday, Sept. 10

: Patch captured an impromptu gathering Crestmoor residents organized on the second anniversary of the September 2010 pipeline explosion to remember the neighbors they lost in the disaster.

: A memorial was set up outside of Don Pico's to mourn the loss of the restaurant's owner, who died in a car crash.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

: Capuchino High students organized a lunchtime ceremony Monday to commemorate the second anniversary of the San Bruno fire.

: The middle school made it through its first few days without a hitch despite the angst about moving sixth graders to Parkside this year.

Wednesday, Sept. 12

: One man says the homeless in the city, though few in number, have nowhere else to go but still get harassed and told they are not wanted in certain places. Are there any solutions?

: An employee working at the UPS San Bruno Hub in South San Francisco filed a lawsuit against the company after reporting that he was called discriminatory names and assaulted with rocks, bottles and tools.

Thursday, Sept. 13

: Tony's Sports Novelties and Melaka Restaurant recently went out of business.

Friday, Sept. 14

: Northern San Mateo County PTA leaders held a rally in South San Francisco to show support for Proposition 38, which will appear on November's ballot.

I heard that Safeway was going to open at the end of the month.

They took down the sign that said they were opening on June 14 and I haven't seen a new one with theRead More new date go up. The website still says "Store Grand Opening is on target for June 14, 2013," so that clearly needs updating too.
