Housing Inventory at All-Time Low in San Bruno

Despite the fact that there are more homebuyers than ever in the city, real estate inventory is down this week.

Everyday, sometimes twice or more, I check the San Bruno MLS (Multiple Listing Service) to see if a new home has come on the market. Well, what I have noticed is that everyday something new comes up and two more sell.

That leaves us with 16 single family homes on the market as I write this. I checked to see how many residential "households" there are in San Bruno and according to Bay Area Census 2010, there are approximately 14,700 households? That's not a lot of houses for sale.

Another statistic in the MLS I thought was interesting was that last year at this time there were 10 bank-owned sales in the month of July. This July there have only been two.

I think that people who currently live in San Bruno like it here and don't want to move. I am sure that there are some who can't afford to move, but for longtime residents the idea of leaving to "upgrade" is not even in the question. I recently talked to a few friends who said the idea of upgrading their home would happen—but only within San Bruno.
