Question of the week
Q: Joe, we are putting are home on the market. What should we do prior to listing the property?
A: There are a number of inexpensive things sellers can do to make their home for attractive for potential homebuyers. Here are the top five:
- Have a pre-sale home inspection.
- Organize and clean.
- Get any and all repair estimates.
- Find and organize all warranties.
- Spruce up the curb appeal.
Home inspections prior to sale are becoming a norm. These help the buyers understand the home's value, and they help solidify the price upfront. A "sales cleaning" is a great way to get the home ready to show. Remember the old addage, "clean and old is better than new and dirty."
Curb appeal is very important. This is the first impression potential buyers get when they see your home. Stand outside your home and look. Do the lawn and bushes look neatly manicured? Is the address visible? Are pretty flowers and plants framing the entrance?
