Downtown San Bruno: Why So Many Eyesores?

Here are some more questions about downtown San Bruno's problems that need more answers.

Ok. So I have a couple of more questions for The Chamber and for The Mayor.

We all know the Theater owner has died for some time now. What does that have to do with the fact that the Theater is still there, boarded up, abandoned, and an eyesore to the community? Isn't there something we can do about that?

I dont know about these things , which is why I am asking. It seems San Bruno has a lot of those "eyesores": The Theater, Lee's Buffet, which in my view is DISGUSTING , the Prudential property, and one big eyesore right next to my business , that big Black (Unused I might add) Parking Lot!

What is up with these abandoned buildings?!?!  With all the talk of No Parking available, wouldn't it seem logical to put a parking lot in one or two of these locations? I'd prefer something else, BUT if the people are calling for more parking, it kinda makes sense, No?

Another question. The people that I talk with (residents or business owners) in San Bruno are saying there are very few stores to attract them to the Ave.? Now who is responsable for letting such stores operate on The Ave. Is it The Chamber? Are the people invited to put their two cents in?

These days people are learning more and more about Small Buisiness and how essential it is to the community. So with a lot of Wonderful Small Businesses on The Ave., what are we doing wrong?? What are we doing to promote these businesses on The Ave.? I really don't know.

I do know San Bruno Patch advertises many. But what else? With all the empty spaces available, do we have a small business grant in order? Do people who are not on The chamber know of these? And why is it there has been quite a few Buisinesses next to Newells or 40's that Have NOT been able to stay in business?

Is it the bar? Is it the smell ? Is it the smoking? Is it too loud ? Are there strange people loitering? Red Flag? Is there a need for The Police to "walk the beat" again??

If there are young adults asking for money disturbing the Buisiness on The Ave., I think there's a BIG need for a cop or two to stroll The Ave. I'd love it, for one! Cops WALKING on the Ave., getting to know the people and the stores. How wonderful would that be?

That would surely take care of the young people begging for money.... Customers would feel safe again.

Yes, I have more questions and, yes, I will continue to ask. Please leave comments and suggestions and, if you have answers, we want those too.

I guess soon I shall or will have to join The Chamber or something. As I said before, San Bruno has been VERY good to me and My Small business.  I would HATE to have to leave in the future if our Downtown turns into a Ghost Town.

With that said "you gotta get up and try and try and try," and that is what I'm planning on doing. Happy Thanksgiving To All. More questions coming soon.

Find and support 4 new leaders or stop talking about it, because that is the solution. Any objections? No one wants to admit it, but except for a few of you, San Bruno doesnt care or want to put an effort into it. Its just the truth. Very frustrating for those that care, I'm sure. What other explanation is there? We elect the same uninspired, non-visionaries year-after-year. We go to neighboring downtowns instead our own. Sorry. I'm just as guilty as the rest. I just sit here and type instead of getting involved. As I have said before, I'll repost, again, because thats what all I do...I'm a complainer..

I think the old El Camino theater is the perfect symbol for San Bruno. Apathy. Do you think ANY of the neighboring cities would allow such a thing to welcome people to their cities, much less any locals accepting it as their own? I hear the San Bruno folk complain about how bad things are, with lots of rhetoric, and blame, but they do not and will not get involved. They blame the mayor, and the city employees, and the superintendent, and the school board. They blame it on the local politicians and claim they have all the solutions, claim they will help when "new leadership" is in place. But do they run for office, the complainers? I'm sure you, reader, will disagree, and continue with name-calling and finger pointing, but will you provide proof that you have done anything other than talk about it, any real effort, or more talk and more words? We are the El Camino theater.

How many times are you going to repeat the same comments? Since you don't want to get involved, you should find something else to do.
Edwin S November 20, 2012 at 08:04 PM
John, have you looked at your posts? Take a minute to do so and then self reflect.
John Hanson November 20, 2012 at 08:39 PM
I am not the El Camino Theather.

How many indian jewelry stores do we need on "the ave"?
Mary an Stanley November 20, 2012 at 10:44 PM

"Lee's Buffet, El Camino Theater" = foreign investors.
Sandra Hickson November 21, 2012 at 08:50 PM
What group is coming together in January Mary An?
Mary an Stanley November 22, 2012 at 08:04 AM
Edwin why don't you want to get involved?
Victor Montoya Jr. November 27, 2012 at 03:37 PM
If it weren't for all the shops that are on "the Ave" that place would be a ghost town! Also you might want to take into account how much that pipeline disaster really did cost the city. If that didn't happen then maybe we'd have more funds to improve our downtown area. If you don't like it then do something to change it because sitting around complaining about it does nothing but annoy those that are doing something about it.
Mary an Stanley November 27, 2012 at 06:27 PM
I'm trying to do something about it that is why I am asking questions . I'm not complaining. What are you doing ? Maybe I can help you? Let me know.

City Council meeting tonight, to discuss Transit Plan. No on increasing height limits.
Chris Kiely November 28, 2012 at 01:31 AM
I'm in favor of the new height limits. We need something to shake things up. The current mix of businesses, customers, government and property owners isn't working.
John Hanson November 28, 2012 at 01:47 AM
The higher the building the louder the noise for people on top floors. Would you move in one?
Sara Glascock November 29, 2012 at 06:16 PM
The downtown area has looked like this for the past 2 decades, at least. As for a solution, well....
Mary an Stanley December 01, 2012 at 04:38 AM
What is the solution Sara? Please , The Mayor and The Chamber NEED to hear how We ALL feel about our Downtown. It's important , don't you think?
Mary an Stanley December 01, 2012 at 08:08 PM
Is the Ave decorated for Christmas by the city? I decorate the salon tomorrow.
Chris Kiely December 21, 2012 at 06:13 AM
Has this issue dropped off the radar? Or has it just gotten buried under all the usual suspects yelling at each other? Are there any local issues that people care about anymore?
Mary an Stanley December 22, 2012 at 05:26 AM
Chris, i I hope to meet with the Mayor after the holiday and have a walk down the Ave. and invite everyone who wants . I have not forgotten or nor will I forget. The chamber is talking about a new committee for the merchants of the ave. and I'm waiting to hear more. I will post as soon as I hear more ... If I don't hear anything , I will certainly post as well.
