I decided to take a walk down San Mateo Ave. Saturday Night after work. I wanted to see Christmas "explode" on the Ave. I wanted to feel the Christmas Spirit with shoppers shopping and kids running around looking at Chritmas Lights. Needless to say , I was truly disappointed . What I saw was , ONLY a couple of stores that were decorated for The Holiday, CQ Arts for Kids looked very festive! As well as Never Too Latte , Salon 725 , The Dollar Store , El Patio and a couple of other stores showcased Holiday Windows. The disappointment was with the street itself, San Mateo Ave.!!! Where are the lights? Where is the garland? Where is Santa??? Any other DownTown area is decorated to the hilt! Once again I ask .... What Happened???? Why is The Downtown Area being ignored? Even during Christmas. The Park that is roped off , has 3 lighted "trees" (too small for the space ) that looked like some kind of decoration. A man sitting on the park bench was trying to enjoy the Ave. but it was so dark ,I barely saw him. He kinda startled me. I'm sure I startled him too. I found The Ave. way to dark to get "the Christmas Spirit " flowing. We,San Mateo Ave. NEED more . We NEED RESPECT. If we are going to try , if we want to try , to get our DownTown back , we NEED to do something. I hope The Chamber is listening and I hope The Mayor is listening. These little things , like decorating the Downtown area , make a BIG difference! We could have asked PGE to hook up some Christmas Lights for us,They would have done that for us in a hot second! Think about it. Do we have a booklet of coupons for all the stores on the Ave. during this Holiday Season ?? Do we even KNOW the stores on San Mateo Ave??? I was reading The Patch about Where to go for Small Business Shopping..... NOT ONE STORE on the Ave. was mentioned!! Burlingame , Pacifica even RedwoodCity were suggested to do some Small business shopping! Now if that isn't a kick in the ass I don't know what is. Is it really too much to ask? Places like Dublin WANT a Downtown Soooo bad! They don't have one , and they are doing everything in their power to "make " one. Maybe we should give them ours. Because it seems like the City ignores us. I don't know, but does Santa make an appearance on The Ave.? ( I know he showed up at a couple of places in San Bruno already) .Am I too early,? Do the lights "pop on" later this month? If they do ,I apologies for complaining too soon. If the lights don't "pop on" and i dont recieve a Holiday Coupon Booklet for shopping on The Ave. in the mail ,and this is all that San Mateo Ave. gets. I salute and bow to ,The Small Business's on The Ave. who really Do care and who are really trying with their business to bring back their Downtown! Go check them out , you will know who they are, spend your money at their place. They need you. And if the City could care less about decorating The Ave. next year for the Holiday Season, ill ask all of you who care, to help me.We will do it. Happy Holidays to all! MOST important.....
