Composting in San Bruno

Got my kitchen bucket today. The FAQ says "Compostable/biodegradable bags are not accepted in the Organics program." The flier Recology sent to my house last weeks says "bio-plastics labeled 'compostable' ... may be put there." OK, I understand that some things that are biodegradable are not compostable, but when one thing Recology sends me says compostable is OK and another says it is not, I am confused. I have called them and have been told someone will get back to me. I also love how the FAQ says composting is optional ... but of course the higher rates we are paying are NOT optional.

I agree about the rates, as we already compost everything in our garden composter and have done so for several years.

Heard back from Recology today: Bags of any kind, even if they are labeled compostable, are not allowed. The only bioplastics allowed are cutlery, dishes and to-go containers labeled as compostable.

You can always use paper bags or just line it with newspaper.

Why should we do all the work for the scavenger company so they can get money back for the plastic bottles, keep raising are rates several times a year, keep pay the drivers whatever they want and the city sites back on there ???? and allows it. We need to have a third party to watch over this and over the city management..The city office is even printing the billing out for them as well..
