A 19-year-old South San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol following a head-on collision near Junipero Serra County Park in San Bruno early Sunday morning, police said.

At 12:11 a.m., San Bruno police officers and emergency crews responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Crystal Springs Road near Cunningham Way.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the collision occurred when a black Chevrolet Camaro traveling west on Crystal Springs Road crossed over the center line and struck a white Ford Explorer traveling in the opposite direction head-on, police said.

The drivers of both vehicles, as well as the passenger in the Camaro, were all transported to San Francisco General Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Camaro, identified as Hugo Gutierrez, 19, was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police.

Whatever happened to the days when an injured person was taken to the NEAREST hospital. SF General is 12 miles away, while Kaiser & Mills are both only 4 miles away & San Mateo General is 8 miles. They all have emergency rooms capable of handing serious injuries, yet the injured are taken to the hospital farthest away. How does that make sense?

I've always couldn't figure that one out myself! We have a new hospital at Peninsula and they go to SF General! I also can't understand with an airport, etc here why they never put a trauma at Peninsula!

SF General is where north county medics go. It's one of the best trauma centers that are left nearby.

Peninsula ER is very expensive, they also have a penalty for going to the ER during Friday thru Sunday. This is not paid for by the insurance companies.
