70-Year-Old Woman Identified as Caltrain Pedestrian Death

The woman was struck on train tracks in Palo Alto Thursday morning.

A woman who was struck and killed by a train on the Caltrain tracks in Palo Alto on Thursday has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 70-year-old Susan Cashion.

Around 7:35 a.m. Thursday, Caltrain southbound train No. 210 fatally struck Cashion, a Palo Alto resident.

The collision occurred on the tracks at Charleston Road, according to Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.

Dunn said the train was carrying 322 passengers at the time of the crash and that no one on board was injured.

Trains stopped in both directions and buses briefly took riders around the scene. Trains began single-tracking through the area about an hour later, the spokeswoman said.

The southbound tracks reopened about two hours later, though delays and cancellations persisted throughout the morning, according to Dunn.
