Man Connected to 6 Peninsula Auto Burglaries Arrested in San Bruno

Police believe the man, a transient, broke into a number of vehicles in Belmont, San Mateo, Redwood City, Hillsborough and Millbrae.

A man suspected of committing a series of vehicle burglaries in San Mateo County was arrested recently, Belmont police announced Friday.

Several weeks of investigations by six San Mateo County law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest on the morning of May 17 in San Bruno of Matthew Justin Garcia, 26.

Garcia was arrested in connection with vehicle burglaries that occurred in Belmont, San Mateo, Redwood City, Hillsborough and Millbrae—including six vehicle burglaries in Belmont's Hallmark area and six incidents in the Baywood-Aragon area of San Mateo, authorities said.

Garcia, a transient, was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle at the time of his arrest, according to authorities.

Detectives from San Mateo, Belmont, Redwood City, Hillsborough, San Bruno and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office worked together on the investigation.

"Crime and criminals don't respect jurisdictional lines, and law enforcement agencies must work together," Belmont Police Chief Don Mattei said in a statement Friday.
