Another Man Convicted for Armed Robbery of Taxi Driver

The armed robbery took place in August 2010 when one of the men pulled a handgun on the driver on San Bruno Avenue West near Alpine Way.

Another man is facing prison time for his role in the August 2010 armed robbery of a taxi driver in San Bruno after he pleaded no contest Thursday to the crime. 

Balraj Singh, 49, of Fremont admitted to one charge of carjacking and faces three years in state prison with credit for 211 days already served.

In March, 41-year-old to his role in the robbery but claimed that he didn't take part in the kidnapping and armed robbery of the taxi driver, only that he was the getaway driver. On Thursday, Singh, a fellow cabbie and the reported mastermind of the carjacking, was sentenced to a year in prison and three years probation, according to the San Mateo Daily Journal.

According to San Bruno police, the taxi driver picked up two passengers at about 11:30pm on Aug. 31 at the , a bar in Menlo Park.

The passengers, Rajinder Kumar and Balraj Singh, then directed the driver to take them to Daly City, where on the way they had him stop at a Redwood City apartment complex, get back on the freeway and exit in Millbrae, and take surface streets to San Bruno where one of the men pulled a handgun on the driver on San Bruno Avenue West near Alpine Way, the district attorney’s office said.

The two men then reportedly robbed the driver of his wallet and cell phone before walking to another car where Raj Singh was waiting for them, the district attorney’s office said.

Police arrested all three men by following a trail of cell phone records.

Kumar is in custody without bail and is expected to face trial June 13.
