Consul Who Beat His Wife Faces Judge Again

Yoshiaki Nagaya is facing sentencing on a slew of charges related to accusations that he repeatedly hurt his wife.

After inflicting at least 14 months of abuse on his wife, Yoshiaki Nagaya of San Bruno will spend up to a year in jail.

Nagaya, 33, is the Vice Consul for Japan in San Francisco and resides. He was married for 18 months at the time of his arrest, the majority of which his wife spent taking photos of wounds she claimed he inflicted upon her.

According to San Mateo County District Attorney's Office Media Notes, Nagaya stabbed his wife in the hand with a screwdriver, knocked her tooth out, stomped on her, threw her out of a car and shoved her face into a mattress.

In December of last year, Nagaya took a no contest plea deal on the condition that he would spend up to one year in county jail — not state prison.

Nagaya, who is out of custody on $350,000 bail, was supposed to be sentenced on Tuesday, but the sentencing was rescheduled for March 18.
