Crosby Court Family Files Lawsuit Against PG&E in Aftermath of Pipeline Explosion

A Crosby Court family joins dozens of other Crestmoor neighborhood residents who have filed lawsuits against the utility for the Sept. 9 fire.

Another family has filed a lawsuit against PG&E in connection with the deadly Sept. 9 gas explosion and fire. 

The Ferreiras, whose home on Crosby Court wasn't damaged but who had to evacuate the Crestmoor neighborhood when the fire ripped through the area, filed the lawsuit Jan. 6 in San Mateo County Superior Court.  

According to the lawsuit, Renae Ferreira was eating dinner and her husband, Russ, had just left for work when the explosion happened. Renae tried to run out of her front door. But the pressure from the flames was too strong, so she escaped through the back door.

Russ helped a neighbor, a San Mateo County sheriff, assist other residents on the street escape from the blaze. 

The charges include negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, private and public nuisance and trespassing. The lawsuit also calls for injunctive relief to have , the pipeline that exploded, relocated or repaired and for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to install remote or automatic shutoff valves on all of its pipes. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages as well.

As it has stated from the beginning of the disaster, PG&E says it remains committed to helping Crestmoor residents rebuild their lives. PG&E is waiting for a about its petition to have against the utility heard before one judge.
