Japanese Diplomat to be Sentenced, Faces up to 1 Year in County Jail

The diplomat made a plea deal in December that meant he wouldn't spend time in state prison.

Yoshiaki Nagaya, the Japanese diplomat and San Bruno resident who entered a no contest to two counts of domestic violence in December 2012 will be sentenced today in a Redwood City courtroom.

Nagaya was originally charged with 13 counts of domestic violence against his wife.  The abuse spanned 14 months of an 18 month marriage and included  an allegation that he stabbed her hand with a screwdriver, broke a tooth and threw her out of a car.

Yoshiaki was a rewsident of San Bruno when many of the allged abuses took place and was arrested by the San Bruno Police.

The sentencing was originally scheduled for February 6, 2013 but was rescheduled for today, March 18.

Nagaya remains free on a $350,000 bail.

The sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Department 9 in Judge Craig Parsons’ courtroom.
