Man Convicted of Molesting Stepdaughter Gets New Trial

The 31-year-old San Bruno man faces 14 counts of engaging in a lewd act with a minor.

A San Bruno man who was convicted of molesting his 15-year-old stepdaughter will receive a new trial, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office said today.

Rohit Dhir, 31, was in July 2011 after pleading no contest to 14 counts of engaging in a lewd act with a minor.

But Dhir's attorney filed a writ of coram nobis after the trial, and Superior Court Judge Jonathan Karesh threw out the original case in February and ordered that Dhir be given a new trial.

According to the district attorney's office, Dhir began molesting his stepdaughter when they lived in India. The molestation, which included fondling and oral copulation, continued when the family emigrated to San Bruno until November 2007.

Dhir's attorney denied all the charges and claimed that the stepdaughter made up a story because Dhir was opposed to her getting an education and wanted her to have an arranged marriage.
