Man Gets Prison Time for 'Vicious' 2009 Beating on San Bruno Street

The victim, a 60-year-old man, was knocked unconscious, had his money and credit cards stolen and suffered damage to his brain, eye sockets and face.

A 20-year-old San Francisco man was sentenced to state prison today for viciously beating a man unconscious in San Bruno in 2009 and robbing him of his money and credit cards, the San Mateo County District Attorney's office said.

Holland Gage III pleaded no contest on March 29 to five felony charges stemming from the incident, including attempted murder, robbery, felony assault and credit card fraud.

Three of the charges had enhancements added for causing great bodily injury to the victim, the district attorney's office said.

According to prosecutors, Gage, then 19, and a 60-year-old man got into an argument on Oct. 29, 2009, on a San Bruno street after Gage accused the man of hitting and scratching his car, and then demanded money for the alleged damage.

The man denied hitting Gage's car and threatened to call the police when Gage chased him, knocked him to the ground and "viscously" kicked and stomped on the man's head until he went unconscious, prosecutors said.

Gage then took the man's money and credit cards and went on a shopping spree, spending $1,500 at Nordstrom and a market in San Francisco.

The victim suffered bleeding in his brain, had both eye sockets fractured and had numerous bruises and lacerations to his face.

Gage was sentenced to serve six years in prison for the incident.
