The wife of a man who allegedly attempted to throw her from the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge last month is asking publicly for help with legal expenses.

In a GoFundMe campaign, a website where supporters can make donations to almost any cause, Nadia McClinton wrote this about Xavier McClinton, who is being held without bail for her attempted murder:

Xavier and I appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from the community. Many of you have asked how you can help.

Xavier's case is currently winding its way through the legal system. It is a slow, and as you can imagine, expensive process. We are asking for donations for his legal defense fund. Donations of any amount will help pay for the massive legal expenses this situation has generated.

Anyone who knows Xavier knows he is a gentle giant, and has given so much to so many. This is a way to help him in his time of need.

This is going to be a long, healing process. Xavier and I are so very grateful to have you in our lives and know that we can make it through with everyone's help and love.

McClinton has raised $3,540 of the $20,000 goal since publishing the page on Jan. 22.

The woman was reportedly rescued by passing motorists on Dec. 13, when witnesses saw the man attempting to throw her over the edge; she was narrowly grabbed by her legs to safety. In the commotion, McClinton was said to have fallen about 15 feet from the bridge into the Bay and was arrested after the Alameda County Fire Department pulled him from the water.

McClinton is the owner/operator of Body By X fitness training center in Corte Madera, where according to the gym's website, Xavier has been a personal trainer, an architect of mind, body and soul for more than twenty years —mentoring kids of all ages and assisted them in overcoming their physical and emotional fears, and self-esteem issues over the course of many years.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
