San Bruno Police Make High Risk Traffic Stop on San Mateo Avenue

Officers had reason to believe people in vehicle were armed.

The series of events began during the early morning hours of Friday, April 5 at the Motel 6 in Belmont.

Belmont Police received a report of an assault and robbery at the hotel.  Officers dispatched to the hotel located at 1101 Shoreway Road in Belmont interviewed a woman who told a tale of being assaulted and robbed by two male acquaintances who had since left the area.

The Belmont Police Department notified surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for the men and also gave a description of their vehicle.

“That’s when San Bruno got involved,” said Captain Tony Psaila of the Belmont Police Department.

Psaila wasn’t prepared to give a lot of details about the case.  “We’ve interviewed those gentlemen,” said Psaila.  The investigation is ongoing.”

“I can’t get into that part of the investigation at this point,” said Psaila when asked if the men had been arrested and charged.  “”We’ll be letting the DA make the decision on whether to charge them.”

Psaila said the men’s names would not be released until the investigation is complete.

April 5, 2013: 2:30 p.m.

During a traffic stop this morning, officers with the San Bruno Police Department drew their weapons as they approached a vehicle. 

According to San Bruno Police Chief Neil Telford, for the safety of police as well as citizens, officers will approach a vehicle with drawn weapons if they have reason to believe the vehicle’s occupants are armed.   

“There was a high risk stop made on San Mateo Avenue,” said Telford. 

San Bruno Police officers made the stop at the request of the Belmont Police Department.

Telford had no more details to give and Belmont Police  have not returned a call from Patch.
