The man who was shot and killed by a San Bruno Police Officer early Tuesday morning has been identified as 25 year old Ryan Salonga of San Francisco.
Salonga was killed in the 500 block of Poplar Avenue shortly after 2 a.m.
San Bruno Police Lt. Tim Mahon said that Salonga, who was driving a stolen vehicle, tried to use that vehicle as a weapon against the officer.
According to Lt. Mahon, “The officer followed the vehicle onto the 500 block of Poplar Ave, which is a dead end street. The officer activated his emergency lights. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to the end of the street. The officer followed the vehicle to the end of the block where he exited his patrol vehicle and ordered the driver to stop. The driver made a U-Turn and drove in the direction of the officer. The officer then discharged his firearm striking the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
No one else was injured. A passenger in the stolen vehicle was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
The shooting is being investigated by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office and the San Bruno Police Department.
