Trial to Begin For San Bruno Man Accused of Molesting Stepdaughter

According to the San Mateo County district attorney's office, the man allegedly began molesting his stepdaughter when they lived in India and continued to molest her when the family emigrated to San Bruno.

The trial of a San Bruno man who is accused of molesting his 15-year-old stepdaughter multiple times over a year is set to begin today.

Rohit Dhir, 30, has been charged with 11 counts of engaging in a lewd act with a minor in connection with the alleged crime. The prosecution will begin its opening statements this afternoon in the Redwood City Hall of Justice.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, Dhir allegedly began molesting his stepdaughter when they lived in India in September 2009. The molestation, which included fondling and oral copulation, continued when the family emigrated to San Bruno until September 2010, the district attorney's office said.

The stepdaughter tried to report the molestation claims to her mother, but her mother ignored them, the district attorney's office said. The stepdaughter later ended up in foster care and is now in college.

Dhir's attorney, David Cohen, has denied all the charges and claims that the stepdaughter made up a story because Dhir was opposed to her getting an education and wanted her to have an arranged marriage.
