Ad Sales Scam Still Plaguing San Bruno Businesses

A salesman calling himself Christopher and calling from the 309 area code is continuing to hawk advertising on magnets to San Bruno businesses while claiming he was referred by the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce.

The only catch is the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce doesn’t know who the phone salesman is nor is the chamber familiar with this particular promotion.

“It’s scary to think there’s someone out there claiming to be a city employee and representing the chamber at the same time,” said Chamber of Commerce CEO Jamie Monozon.  “It really angers me because our role in the community is to both protect and support local businesses.”

Monozon is encouraging any member of the community who has been victimized by this salesman to call the San Bruno Police Department and file a report.

The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce reminds all businesses and residents not to give personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know. 

One way to avoid problems is to ask telephone solicitors to email information about their promotions. 

The chamber first became aware of the phone solicitations earlier in the month when a member called to ask about the promotion and was informed the chamber had no knowledge of the salesman or the promotion.
