After Heroic Response from All Over, City Council Gives Personal Thank Yous

Staying true to the city's motto, the City Council decided to issue proclamations to the cities and agencies that responded to San Bruno's worst disaster in history.

For the last few weeks, Mayor Jim Ruane and the rest of the members of the City Council have been taking personal visits to the meetings of their counterparts throughout San Mateo County to give thanks on behalf of the city for their first responders' help with the Sept. 9 explosion and fire.

More than 500 firefighters and 300 police officers came to the aid of the city in the first 48 hours when the blast ripped through the Crestmoor neighborhood. Staying true to the city's motto, "The city with a heart," the council members decided to issue proclamations to the cities and agencies that responded to San Bruno's worst disaster in history. All told, more than 19 proclamations have been delivered.
