Things to Know: Get to Know Local Businesses at Annual Showcase

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Saturday, April 14. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce will be holding its seventh annual Showcase of Businesses at The Shops at Tanforan. For more information, call 650-588-0180 or visit www.sanbrunochamber.com.

Wednesday, April 18. 8:30-9:15 p.m. If you're interested in what's it's like to go to middle school in San Bruno, check out the Parkside Parent Tours. Email Teri Vo at terivo@yahoo.com to sign up. These tours are for adults only; students are not to attend.

Wednesday, April 18. 6:30-8:30 pm. It's that time of the year to sign up for fall soccer. The AYSO Region 249 will be holding registration in the rec center. Coaches, refereees and volunteers are encouraged to show up.

Saturday, April 21. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Prudential San Bruno will be holding its free Paper Shredding Party. Contact Larry Franzella at 650-589-1000 with your questions.

Saturday, April 21. Noon-4 p.m. Join The Shops at Tanforan and Parenting on The Peninsula for the Children’s Activities Fair to learn about fun, educational and active children's programs. Meet representatives from various after-school, summer and year-round programs, and watch demonstrations from participating exhibitors. Contact the mall office at 650-392-1631 with any questions.

Thursday, April 26. 9:30-11:30 a.m. San Bruno Chamber of Commerce and Sparkpoint Center are proud to offer a small-business series for local entrepreneurs. These classes are open to both chamber members and non-chamber members. For more information, call 650-588-0180.

Saturday, April 28. 1-4 p.m. Check out Children's Day/Book Day, also known as Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros at City Park. All afternoon, there will be crafts for kids, a book giveaway, music and performances to enjoy.

Who's Who and What's What

1. For parenting resources, check out the Children’s Health Council, which offers parent education classes, parent coaching, a parent learning center, expert advice and much more. Contact them at 650-688-3625 or visit www.chconline.org

2. The library's homework center is open to all students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The hours are 3-6 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 1:30-6 p.m. Thursday. Homework center hours will match school dismissal times. Students and parents must sign a registration form before a student uses the center. It is recommended that parents of children younger than 10 years old remain in the library building while the child is at the center. The homework center provides computers to complete assignments, access to online tutoring and a site manager who will create an atmosphere conducive to studying, as well as help children complete their homework as time permits. The center does not provide one-on-one tutoring.
