City Council Will Wrangle Budget Priorities and Consider a Draft Gun Sellers's Permit

The new gun control measure will only apply to new businesses wishing to buy and sell firearms.

San Bruno city staff has developed a draft ordinance aimed at keeping new gun dealers in the M-1 zone and out of the city’s established retail commercial zones and residential zones.

There are currently only two businesses in San Bruno that hold federal firearms licenses- Golden Gate Guns at 360 El Camino Real and Big 5 Sporting Goods at 855 El Camino Real.

According to a staff report, gun shops in retail, office and neighbor commercial zones is no longer consistent with the General Plan.

If the draft ordinance in approved by the city council, the new designated area for gun dealers would be a narrow strip in the M-1 industrial zone bounded on the north by Tanforan Avenue, Hermosa Street to the south and San Mateo and Montgomery Streets to the east and west.

The proposed zoning changes need Planning Commission approval before final adoption by the City Council.
