City Plans Events to Prep for Crestmoor Reconstruction

The first of the reconstruction projects for the Crestmoor neighborhood are set to begin this spring. The neighborhood was devastated by the Sept. 9, 2010, pipeline explosion.

Two events are being planned later this month to rally residents around the reconstruction of the Crestmoor neighborhood, according to the city's website.

The first event is a neighborhood meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at to discuss the planned improvements for the neighborhood, which was devastated by the Sept. 9, 2010, PG&E pipeline explosion that left eight people dead and 38 homes destroyed.

In December, the in reconstruction projects that will include replacing all streets, sewers, water mains, curbs, gutters and sidewalks within the fire-damaged area. The city also wants to replace damaged storm drains, retrofit streetlights with new LED lights and replant the Glenview and Earl Park with native species. Incentives will also be given to homeowners who rebuild their homes with green improvements. The first phase of construction is expected to begin in the spring.

On Jan. 28, the city will hold an informal gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. at the where residents can enjoy coffee and desserts and chat with their neighbors. City staff will also be available to discuss the neighborhood reconstruction plans.
