The city is planning a gathering to commemorate the second anniversary of the .
Residents are invited to share desserts and celebrate community at from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 9, the day two years ago that a PG&E gas transmission pipeline ruptured in the Crestmoor neighborhood and left eight people dead and 38 homes destroyed.
The fire forever changed the city, but the as residents have tried to rebuild their lives and move forward from the disaster.
During the event, a plaque will also be placed on the in the park in honor of the community's recovery since the fire.
Mayor Jim Ruane said he expects the event to be somber as the fire is still on many people's minds.
"As we continue to rebuild both physically and emotionally, the second anniversary remembrance will give us, once again, the opportunity to reflect more directly on the loss of our family, friends and neighbors that occurred the evening of Sept. 9, 2010," Ruane said. "We will never forget."
