Commission Update: New Homes Proposed, Basketball Court Repaved

Highlights from the April, May and June meetings of the city's citizen-appointed boards.

Here’s what has been happening with some of the city’s commissions over the last few months.

New Homes to be Built on Cedar Ave.

A new housing development project has been proposed for the 1.9 acre-vacant space formerly occupied by . The developer, Lennar Homes, is proposing to build 14 homes on the lot, which is on the corner of Cedar and Park avenues.

The Architectural Review Committee suggested to the developer that , such as tankless water heaters and solar panels, be included in the new homes. But the developer told the committee that it wasn’t planning on adding those features. However, Lennar Homes has agreed to pre-wire the homes if future homeowners wanted to install solar panels on their own.

The developer also plans to install air conditioning in the homes, which surprised at least one planning commissioner.

Basketball Court at Park Looks Brand New

The Parks and Recreation Commission has continued to monitor the basketball court at because the court has been it to work on the gas pipeline underneath following the Sept. 9 pipeline explosion in the Crestmoor neighborhood.

The commission reported at its May meeting that PG&E has now repaved the blacktop on the court, painted new lines, and installed new backboards.

Commission Looking to Partner With Safe Routes to Schools

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is looking to form a partnership with the county’s Health Policy and Planning Division to launch a walking school bus program in the city.

The walking school bus concept is part of the Safe Routes to Schools program, which promotes safety while kids are walking and riding their bikes to school.
